Why Cycle4Sobell?

Because it’s a fun thing to do to raise money for a great cause: Sobell House Hospice in Oxford, a specialist palliative care service.

In June 2009 Gary, my brother-in-law, sadly passed away in Sobell House. To commemorate his life and the many others who have used this fantastic Hospice, a few of us decided to do something challenging to raise funds.

We’re all city cyclists so decided to push ourselves to our limits and test our waning stamina by enduring a cycle ride to Paris from Oxford. This will come as no surprise to those who know us; clearly, we are all fine specimens of pure athlete…

Setting off on Thursday 22nd April 2010, we plan to take just two and half days to complete the journey of about 260 miles or 415 km. With such a lofty goal, a high, average road-speed is essential – we have already started our leg-waxing regime and are crafting our own lycra-like shorts from biodegradable, sustainable, non-toxic, non-chafing materials (it is Oxford, afterall).

Sobell House is a fantastic facility with dedicated Nursing and non-Nursing staff. We hope you can help us reach our goal of raising £10,000 for specific items. Even if you just donate a few pounds, it all adds up!

I’m sure you will agree it will be a fine achievement when 12 ageing blokes hold up the Parisian traffic so that they can wobble speed over the finish line at the Arc de Triomphe in true Armstrong style.

Thanks for your support
